I'm having a bizarre issue with combat in MM7. Only one of my characters ever takes damage (my cleric in slot 3, not sure if either of those makes a difference.) Even if I equip her with the best equipment my party has and strip everyone else down to their skivvies, no one else gets attacked until she's down. It's really kind of annoying. Is there some kind of party position set up I'm not aware of or has my poor cleric just pissed off the gods somehow?

Thats gotta something wierd for you. My Cleric is in the 3rd slot as well and damage seems to be pretty random among my characters.
Certain monsters will target specific races or classes to the exclusion of all others. Goblin enemies, for example, will always target an active dwarf character, if there is one, and vice versa. (This is one reason why I much prefer dwarf knights to dwarf clerics, at least in the early game.)

Now, if every single creature you encounter, be it rat, bat, goblin, or human bandit, is attacking your cleric... That's something much weirder.

You're talking about your Dwarf being attacked by the Goblins right?

It's to do with how the game had to work with limited memory. There's a chart somewhere that will tell you which races and classes are "disliked" the most by certain monsters.

Huh, that's odd. Did 6 do that, too? I don't seem to remember monsters picking favorites in that one. In any case I'm not that far into the game and it was the goblins I've been testing with so that's probably it. I know the dragon liked to eat her, too, but I didn't hang around him much so it may have been coincidence. I'll have to find different monsters and see if they go after someone else. Thanks!
