I have looked through the manual and the web and not found how one can get his/her stats up high enough to be able to obtain higher level skills. Where are the shrines, etc? I saw that I can increase them with black potions, but I have to get my wizard to gm alchemy, any tips? TY

Sorry, I just noticed that I can't even level my wizard to GM. Is there any hope? I really don't like this skill system I hope it's better in MM8.

Are you playing MM7? If so, what do you mean by stats? There are no stat requirement for skill level, except maybe for Bodybuilding. You need to build up your skill: 4 for Expert, 7 for Master and 10 for Grandmaster; then find the skill trainer.

Or maybe I misunderstood your question.

I'm sorry I was vague. Yes, I am playing mm7. Some skills (like learning and others) require you to have like 50 in the intellect stat, etc. I am simply using what plack potion I can find to help me, but I was wondering if there where shrines or altars (like in mm6) that build stats. Perhaps there are other ways beside barrels.
If my memory serves me rightly, while spells and fountains that boost stats will not help you qualify for a skill upgrade, stat-boosting equipment counts. By this point your party probably has enough assorted equipment to boost a character up to 50. I believe that several of the alchemy and miscellaneous magical item shops can also carry black potions.

As far as stat improvement on equipment I filaed to achieve the nessary stat needs. However, I am using black potions to help me achieve the higher levels in skills. Thanks so much for your input. Can anyone tell me, does MM8 use the same system for skills?
MM8 does indeed use a similar skill system. You'll get used to it though, I like the complication a lot more than the superhero skill system in MM6. Don't worry too much about your stats, soon you'll get amazing sets of armour, weapons and rings that'll skyrocket your stats through the roof.
There are some altars scattered around that'll permanently raise certain stats, but they only work once, there's only a few (less than a handful, I think), and they only give ten points.
This is one of the reasons that getting GM Alchemy should be an early priority in the game.

As soon as you have it, you can spend some time collecting alchemical ingredients and get your entire party stat-boosted to become super tough.

But, as MalcolmMasher said, for the most part it isn't something to worry about because you get such good equipment that even mediocre stats are more than enough to complete the game.
