Talk about being stuck at the beginning -- I cannot get MM! to recognize my # key, and thusly can't even start the game. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to solve it?

You don't press the # key. What they mean is a number key (1-5).

If you're just starting, only Town 1 is available, so you press 1.

(Yes, lots of people make this mistake ;))
