Hi there,

short question. Do you know if the order in wich my heroes are placed have any influence on the likelihood that they get attcked? In other words is it clever to make a tough main char because he is always in spot 1?

Greetings,
Ardan

No, it doesn’t make much difference what order they’re in. Monsters don’t seem to have much preference at all in MM8.
It's been a while... let me think... I guess I played it like five years ago but I think some monsters were actually hitting the first character more often. I picked a troll who is the toughest of them all so I didn't mind so much. But I must admit - I'm not sure. I picked him just because I liked the idea to play a troll.

EDIT: I don't know how reliable it is but the GameFAQs states that the first character will be hit more oftan than the others: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/197943-might-and-magic-viii-day-of-the-destroyer/faqs/9310 (see number [4])

Mmhh, ok. Two answers two opinions. ;)
Would be very interesting to know though. Ive found no "official" statement about this problem yet.

Perhaps i should run intensive testing. ^^
I found just another character creation guide that implies that the leader is receiving more damage than the others: http://guidesarchive.ign.com/guides/13975/charactercreation.html It's not written openly but sentences like "Dark Elves make poor leaders since they lack the hit points and armour to withstand multiple hits." or "They make great leaders and can take the abuse it takes to stay there!" clearly suggest it. Still, it's not a proof, just a strong indication.
I've *never* noticed my party leader taking any more or less hits than anyone else, if anything my last spot has taken more damage than my first! By the way, Dark Elves make excellent party leaders, I highly recommend them =p

And when was the last time you played the game? Because if quite recently I would suggest that your opinion is more trustworthy. As I said I played long ago so I cannot claim to remember it clearly. Perhaps I've just assumed it because I've seen somebody stating it. If your experimental data are quite fresh than I would suggest you're right.

Dark elf would be my second choice, I picked troll just because it's not so often you can play one in computer games. AND ME LIKE TROLLS! ;)
I literally played it just an hour ago haha I’m currently doing a play through and on both this one and my first play through monsters didn’t discriminate much among who they’re trying to kill! Pretty sure MM8 got rid of the monster preference the MM7 had as well.

Ardaneth, I believe you have the trustworthy answer for your question ;)
Though it is a bit odd that there are at least two guides that say the party leader is more likely to be attacked… Unless my game (two different versions I’ve played mind you) is glitched somehow then the only other explanation is that they’re playing unpatched versions, which you don’t have to worry about if you’re buying from GOG.

Perhaps they just assumed it based on the previous game... more-less like me;)
Ok, thanks. My "testing" seems to go in the same direction. The Monsters don't seem to attack the first char more often then the others. Thanks guys. :)

No problem, I'm glad I could help!
