Hi guys, I just recently bought MM7 - For Blood & Honor off GOG. To make a long story short, I had a few problems with it minimizing but another post on the forum showed me how to fix that. I managed to play for about an hour before I had to save and quit.

When I came back and went to load, I was shocked by the save game not showing up. I did a test and started a new game and saved it. When I hit load, it showed up, then I exited the game and went back into it and hit load - no save game. This is with the Grey's unofficial patch. I uninstalled and tried without the patch and the save games worked.

I don't really want to play without the patch, is there anything I can do to fix it?

It would really suck to try to play the entire game without ever shutting the game down and keeping it in the background 24/7. All it would take is one power-outage...or one cat-induced catastrophe.

Edit: I tested it with MM8 and the same thing is happening with it as well.

Let me hazard a guess...
Windows Vista or Windows 7, installed in Program Files directory, not running as administrator.
Go to your %LOCALAPPDATA% directory, then navigate to VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)GOG.com\Might and Magic 7 directory to locate your saved games. Copy them to Program Files\GOG.com\Might and Magic 7 directory, and run the game as administrator.

Alternatively, reinstall the game to a non-UAC controlled directory, and copy your VirtualStore saves to the installed directory.
Sorry about that, I wasn't thinking when I posted. Yes, windows 7. Thanks for trying to help me, I really appreciate it.

I looked in %LOCALAPPDATA% (by typing that in my explorer it took me to the directory) but I couldn't find the VirtualStore folder. I tried doing a search for it, but that didn't find it either. I looked up what that was and found out that its part of UAC (which has caused me problems ever since moving to win7 despite being 'disabled', winxp was way better.)

I tried fighting UAC and the ownership thing (The article I read said to stop Virtual store you have to have ownership of the folder.) as well as running it in administrator but in the end it didn't fix it or I did it wrong. So I did what you said and reinstalled the game to C:\Games\ but the same thing persisted, save filed appear in the saves folder without the patch but not with it. I tried again this time saving it to a different hard drive than what windows was installed on E:\Games\ Sadly, the same thing happens with it too.

What drives me nuts is my roommate has windows 7, and he didn't have one single problem with or without the patch. (It took me an hour to figure out to disable to disable themes and desktop composition to get it to come up.) Not sure why I have to do that and he doesn't. Or why the patch works for him and causes me problems.

I'm about to just reinstall XP on my laptop and try it on that.
The lack of VirtualStore folder is due to UAC being turned off, nothing to worry about.
So, I've downloaded MM7, installed it, installed Greyface's patch. Then I did the following.
Run Options, and clicked launch game. Started it, saved it, and quit. Saved files appeared in Might and Magic VII\Saves as they should.
Relaunched through Options, saved files were there again, as they should.
Finally, launched the game from the Start Menu shortcut (not options, game itself) and it still showed up the saves as it should.

So, my suggestion would be to look where the .mm7 files are created, and see whether the shortcut you are using is starting the game in a different folder, though I can't think of a reason why that should be happening.
