I just installed MM7. When I start it up it errors out when trying to display the NWC logo with th following pop up:

Can't load new world logo.smk file
D:\mm7Src_eng\MM7\Code\Video.cpp at line number:937

It seems that the game is going out to my DVD looking for files when it shouldn't.

My system is running Windows 7 64bit. I have MM6 and MM8 running without problems.

Never mind, I found the problem. I had a residual 3DO directory that was causing the error. I deleted the folder and MM7 is now working.

Bump

I just bought MM7 through GOG and got the same error. Well, a variation:

Can't load file! in file: d:\mm7Src_eng\MM7\Code\Odmap.cpp at line number: 746

I am very curious as to where this residual 3DO folder would be located. I haven't been able to find a thing.
I posted this in another topic, don't know if it will solve your problem but you could try!

Try scrambling with the MM7 Configuration a little bit, you can start it up by heading to the MM7 folder from your start menu.

One of the requirements for running the game smoothly is that the graphics option should always be set to 'software acceleration'.

I'm doing this from memory so please correct any mistakes, but if I recall it correctly it should give you a fair chance that the game will run correctly. I ran it with zero problems on my Win 7 64 bit machine :)
It seems the install was corrupt - that's what the uninstall told me when I tried to uninstall. I then just deleted the whole thing, reinstalled to the same folder, and this time it worked. Perhaps some files got corrupted by the crash caused by my anti-virus the first time I tried to launch? I have since made MM7 an exception, of course.

Funny thing about the software acceleration option: the first time it was set to hardware acceleration by default. But on my subsequent attempts - including after the new install, when everything seems to be working - the hardware acceleration option was simply greyed out.

As it happens, it wasn't the hardware acceleration which was at fault (the error appeared even with software acceleration selected), but thanks for the tip anyway.
Glad you got the game to work, happy playing!
