I play MM7 via Galaxy (german language); when I go to settings and turn off the music (by moving the switch to the far left position), nothing happens - music is still playing in full volume.

Modern versions of Windows don't fully support the game's redbook audio. If you install Greyface patch it should use mp3 audio by default, provided by GOG.
