I tried to run the MM7 on a Windows XP which is a guest machine of the virtualbox. The virtualbox runs on a Linux Mint. Every time I start the game, it just crash immediately and pop up an error message saying "The application failed to initialize properly". I don't think adjusting the configuration of the MM7 startup options can solve my problem. I figured it might be related to the DirectX support, so I installed the DirectX 3d support from the virtualbox utility CD (according to the instructions from the virtualbox manual), but the problem is still there.

I also installed the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and Neverwinter night in the same WinXP guest machine and both the games run without any problem.

Any thought for the problem?

There is a software and hardware acceleration gfx option you can change in the game's config. Did you try?
