Just can't find the membership in the Light Guild anywhere.
p. 14 of manual says be a Priest of Light....got that

Went through several walkthrus and did not find it.

Can't Learn Light Magic

Did you finish the Wall of Mist? If I remember correctly that is required.

Light and Dark magic can only be learned once you get to that point in the main quest, which is around mid-game. Basically it's a choice of the judge who is going to mediate the conflict between Erathia and Avlee; it's pretty obvious which choice is Light and which is Dark. After you've chosen your path, you're locked in it for the rest of the game, and you'll gain access to the Light or Dark city (Celeste or the Pit respectively), while being reviled in the oppositely aligned city. It is there that you can learn the Light or Dark skill. Both paths are pretty sweet, with the Light path having some of the best healing/buff and anti-undead spells, while the Dark path has the best offensive spell in the game.

One cannot get to be a Priest of Light until after choosing the Light path, completing the Walls of Mist and then the quest to become Priest of Light.

If you are already a Priest of Light, you should be able to find Light Magic in either of the two light guilds, one in Bracada Desert, and the other in Celeste.

Unlike the Elemental and Self magic guilds, no one sells membership to the Light magic guild or the Dark magic guild. You have to make the Good/Evil choice, then complete the relevant proving grounds quest (Walls of Mist or The Breeding Zone). After you've proven your loyalty and ability, you'll automatically be granted membership to the related magic guild. You don't have to complete the proving ground quest to become eligible for your second promotion, you just have to make the choice between Good and Evil. Once you've made the Good/Evil choice, you can immediately start collecting and completing the class promotion quests, and they may be very helpful in giving you the power to complete the related proving ground.

Ah, my mistake. I've probably just always done it that way.
