I'm having a problem using Raise Dead scrolls. I've accumulated a few in my travels, but so far can't figure out how to use them. If a character dies, I'll left click on the scroll in another character's inventory, then I'll right click on the dead character, at which point it tells me I can't use it because the character is dead. Um, yeah, that's kind of the point, eh?

What am I doing wrong?
The Raise Dead spell only works if you manage to cast it within a certain time of the character dying.

I'm not sure about the timings, but I think it's the following:
Normal - 3 minutes per point of skill
Expert - 1 hour per point of skill
Master - 1 day per point of skill

I'm not positive, but I think the Resurrection spell has pretty much the same timings for a character who's been eradicated.
I believe you have to left click on it in inventory of a live character, then left click on the large charcter portrait on the right (the one where you equip weapons... etc). Then will the cursor change to "select target" and you can click on the dead character.

(I haven't found any of raise dead scrolls, but that's how others like remove curse work)

These are always immediately after combat, so that's not the issue.

I will try that... I've always clicked on the portraits at the bottom of the screen.

Ah, I must have missed that when I read your post.

So, to clarify, to use a scroll in the game - you left-click to pick up the scroll from the inventory, then right click on the person' you would like to be the caster (i.e. someone alive) either on their portrait at the bottom, or on their fall portrait in their inventory screen. Then you should get the targeting cursor, and click on the dead character you would like to revive.

Not exactly.

Left-click on portrait at bottom will pass the scroll to that person.
Left-click on tall portrain in screen will make him caster and get targeting cursor as you wrote. Then you can choose the recipient (in this case the dead person).

Right-click on portrait at bottom is a shortcut to make the make the person both the caster and the recipient. However it only works if that person can take action (i.e. is alive, not turned to stone), so it won't work with raise dead but will work with other spells like protection from fire.
I see, my bad.

Is this changed in later games? Perhaps that's what caused my confusion.

But yeah, try as ZFR suggested.
