So, the question is can Archer become Master of the Sword or I wasted all that points for nothing?

Yes, in MM6 if your character can learn a skill he can also become a master in it (it's changed in MM7 and 8). But some of the skills have addition requirements. For getting master in sword you have to become a cavalier first (honorary cavalier works too!) Visit Lord Osric Temper in Free Haven and you will get an easy quest to become (honorary) cavalier. After that you can become master in sword
