I feel really stupid but cannot figure (with all my searching through manuals & the internet) how to unlock doors without bashing.

I have a robber so I have the thievery skill. What am I missing?

Its even worse that I played this game when it initially came out, but I can't remember or figure out what the heck to do here....

Thanks in advance for any advice.
I haven't played MM3 yet, but in MM1 and MM2 you pressed "U" when facing a locked door to attempt to unlock it. The game would then ask which character wanted to try, so that's when you would choose your robber.

Anyone know if the controls are different in MM3?

Unfortunately that didn't work - I tried the common things, u for unlock, o for open, p for pick, and it just didn't do anything.

Thanks though!
Just move forward into the door and you'll be asked who will open it.
Be aware that you can only unlock doors, walls have to be bashed.
Ah - that must be it. I thought you could unlock the gates that you have in the first town (like in the other M&M games) but perhaps those can't be opened? Only bashed?
There are no gates with locks to pick in the starting town, only walls you can bash.
Having a robber isn't always enough. Their thievery skill needs to be high enough as well, and even then there's a bit of randomness to it. The skill needed varies between maps. as well. As I recall, the gates in the very first town actually had relatively high requirements as both protection to keep you from releasing powerful monsters upon you and also as incentive to return at a later time, after you've bulked up a bunch.
