Hi all,

I started playing MM2 a week ago and I have started to encounter weapons and armor with +7. However, if I try to equip these the games claims my characters alignment is wrong. Now, I played part 1 so I know certain weapons have alignment requirements but the weapons I'm referring to here are different.

Example: my archer is currently equiped with a great bow +3. Now, I found a great bow +7. However, if I try to equip the latetst the game claims my alignment is wrong. This just seems like the same weapon, just stronger.

Can anyone explain?

When an item is generated with a +5 bonus or higher, it is also generated with a random alignment restriction. This restriction can be checked in the shop by paying the shopkeeper to identify the item.

Unfortunately, there is no way to remove the restriction. However, Enchant Item will never add such a restriction (assuming you don't enchant past +63), and non-random items do not come with such restrictions.

There are fountains in the castle dungeons that change your alignment. Note that this will not force you to unequip items, and there is a spell to return your alignment to normal.

(Actually, the thing about not being able to remove the restrictions isn't quite true; you might be able to remove the restriction by enchanting past +63, but I don't consider that practical; that last enchantment costs 3150 spell points!)
Just make sure you have a good distibution of alignments in your party.
Juggling all the pluses and alignments to make the ultimate party is part of the fun of MM2.
That explains a lot! Thanks guys!
One of the key things, as dtgreene mentioned, is that if you already have a weapon equipped and you change your alignment, you can keep it equipped. But if you swap it out you will be unable to re-equip it. This means you can often temporarily set your alignment so you can equip a weapon, then return it to normal and keep playing.
