How do you train hirelings?
This question / problem has been solved by dtgreeneimage
Same way you train anyone else. Just find the training grounds in a town (with more advanced town preferred) and train there, provided the hireling has enough XP to train.

The one difference is in cost. Hirelings do not need any money to train; rather their cost per day (which is actually just a cost to rest with them in your party) will increase by 50% (yes, this is an exponential increase) each level until it reaches the maximum of 50,000.

Thanks. I'm playing on super nintendo and hirelings don't show in training grounds or anything else

You shouldn't play on super nintendo (unless you're playing the Japanese SFC version, in which case you're essentially playing a different game as far as I can tell). The (European) SNES game is horrendously buggy, to the point where it's not worth playing. Choose some other version of the game to play instead.

Specifically, here are some of the problems with the SNES version:
* Spells that are resisted do 50 damage instead of none. (This includes spells that aren't supposed to do that much damage even when not resisted.)
* I've read that instant death spells always work.
* Max HP potions give you 2 HP (instead of 512)
* Many other things don't work properly.
* I even saw, on youtube, a video where the maker said that he was stuck at the inn, and the game had basically frozen, making it impossible to continue the game. (This is a game breaking bug.)

I heard that there were plans to release this version in North America, but that ended up not happening for unknown reasons. I suspect that they weren't able to get the game past Nintendo's QA because it was so buggy.

So, play a different version. Literally *any* other version (to my knowledge) is going to be a better experience.

(If you're playing the Japanese SFC version, then you could continue, but keep in mind that it's not the same game, and since I haven't played that version, I am not able to offer advice on it.)

Yeah, I'm playing the European version. Thanks for all the info. No idea there were that many bugs
