I start might and magic II dosbox runs and immediately closes. I tried it on two different computers one windows 7 32-bit and the other windows 7 64-bit. What should I do? I want to play my game.

You are starting the game from the desktop shortcut (or start menu shortcut), correct? The shortcut contains special instructions on running the game, and it will NOT run if you just try to run the executable.

Check the video mode too... you can get to that from the start menu entry for the game. There's a little GOG utility called Graphic Mode Setup that lets you pick a few different options. The default is "Surface" I believe, but you can try other options like "OpenGL". See if one of those settings gets the game to run.

Another thing you could try is upgrading DOSBox. It should work with the included version (v0.72) but there is now v0.74 available. Just grab it from dosbox.com and install it to the same location as your current version, then try running the game again.

Post back here to let us know if one of those worked. If that still doesn't work, you may wish to take a look at your configuration file, which we can help you with. But hopefully the graphics mode will get it working.
It was as simple as using Graphic Mode Setup thanks.

Actually, now I've got another problem, the thing is combat is way too fast, I'm not able to read anything when someone performs an action because messages barelly last a second, is there any way to make combat slower?

I think if you hit "D" during combat you can set the combat delay from 0-9, 9 being slowest. You can check the manual to be sure.

MM1 has a bug where messages go by way too fast, but MM2 should not have this problem. If you're playing MM1 though, there's a fan fix available. Check this thread:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/might_and_magic_series/mm1_read_this_if_you_think_the_text_appears_too_fast/page1

The actual fan fix is in this post (you have to download the file and rename it to an .exe. instead of .jpg):

Thanks, I was talking about MM2 and I think I already tried the delay option but I will try it again and see if it works.

You have to set the delay each time you play, by the way; the settings are not saved with your characters.

Another thing that might help is updating DOSBox, as outlined in my first post. If that still doesn't help, you can lower the cycles in DOSBox. You can test that out using CTRL+F11 to lower the cyles and CTRL+F12 to increase the cycles. Note that with lower cycles, EVERYTHING will be slower, not just the text. The whole game will run slower. But it might help.

If you find a cycles setting that you like, you can edit your configuration file so that it automatically uses that setting every time you run the game, so you don't have to mess around with the keyboard commands for cycles. I can give instructions for that if you like.
I have the same problem, but i tried all the graphics modes and it´s still not working(surface, openGL...), the other games runs perferct...but MM2 just refuse to start.

If i install the new version of Dosbox, it should be installed in the GOG folder or in the specific game folder with its own Dosbox?

Put it in the specific game folder with its own Dosbox, otherwise you'll have to reinstall the game because the game won't know where to look to find DOSBox.

If you prefer to install somewhere else, it's possible but a little bit of a hassle.

It's odd that it wouldn't start though... anyone else know what might be going on?

I have the 6 first MM pack, and i realized that it has one Dosbox folder for the six games, i tried to start the MM2 drag an dropping in the Dosbox.exe but it says "not enough memory for the 16 color version", (uh? i have 1GB of ram, it should be enough ._.) i will try installing the new version in that folder, if i lose my data, i will lose only half an hour of my life in world of xeen, so anyway...

I dont know what is wrong with this game, the remaining five works perfect, even the first one and swords of xeen!
Upgrading DOSBox should not interfere with any of the other games. I upgraded it for both MM1 and MM2 and it worked fine.

Still, I don't know why MM2 is giving you trouble. If you haven't yet, you might submit a support ticket to GOG and see if they have any ideas. Because I don't have any more.

It´s still not working, so i will try what you say, but just a few minutes ago they updated the download...i guess i should check it before, anyway thanks dude :)

EDIT: with this update it works perfect!
