I have become stuck, I tried my hand at quest 3, the stronghold in the enchanted forest, and cannot defeat most of the monsters there. the random encounters I can handle easily, but the monster tiles completely wipe me out. it this how its supposed to be? I am now
lvl 5, is that bad?
I tried leveling up, but it has been painfully slow, and everytime I get a bunch of xp from a large number of fights, a random encounter thats too high a level for me, comes and butchers my party. man this is frustrating. where can I go to lvl up faster?

Yes, the stronghold in the Enchanted Forest is too tough for lvl 5 characters.
Explore Sorpigal, Algiry and and their dungeons, and the overland between and around the two towns first.
The game is area scaled, so if you think the monsters in one are are too tough, try another area.

You can remove the quest with the "remove quest" spell and then go get a different quest from somewhere else. You're likely to find some that are easier to complete with a level 5 party, and they'll net you some nice experience as a reward. Other than that, as PetrusOctavianus said, simply explore some different places. If you have trouble in one area, try going somewhere else. You'll find plenty of interesting places to explore and things to do if you look around.


EDIT: Was the quest simply to FIND the stronghold, or to defeat it? Finding it just requires finding the entrance (maybe go inside just to be sure) and then going back and turning in the quest. I vaguely remember there being separate quests to find and then later defeat the stronghold, but I might be thinking of something else.

i think the quest is for defeating the minotaur and finding the white dog.
for now I'll grind and get higher levels, sorpigal dungeon seems like a good place to grind

That's a good idea. I'd definitely recommend exploring the world and looking for different quests too; I think the quest to kill the Minotaur is one of the hardest ones and there are many others that are easier and will reward you with lots of experience.
