Does anyone know of a website with information about the first game in the series? I have the manual and cluebook and have made liberal use of them, but I don't want to spoil myself with walkthrough stuff and I have occasional specific questions that neither really answer.

You could ask in this subforum. There are people here who may well know the answer(s), though not everyone is adept at spoiler-less answers.
