zoraida4370: bought the 20 dollar pack. all work accept 9. using windows 10 anyway to fix this?
ratedjoe: I had the same problem. The game was simply closing out immediately without any error. When I ran it from the folder it threw an error, even if I used compatability mode. Searching, I found that the error was caused by a lack of Directplay (by default) in win10.
This is the video I used to re-enable directplay in Win10:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XYyGB-Tn3g I then realized that part of the screen was chopped off in windowed mode.
I applied this patch:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/6-might-and-magic-ix-fullscreen-fixes/
This rectified that problem but I then noticed a crazy amount of lag every time I opened a menu. (At least 20-30 seconds).
I found that this is supposedly due to an unoptomized .dll. Fans have created their own modified version in an attempt to fix this very same issue.
I downloaded the file here:
http://www.chlala.dk/mightandmagic/Mok/cshell.dll and placed it in the data folder.
Now everything is smooth as butter, except that the "Now Loading..." screen overlays everything (stays on when the game is still running in the background). I found a workaround for this is simply to alt+tab out and back in. Everything runs smooth until the next loading screen that requires another alt+tab, but this is far easier than waiting 20+ seconds between every menu.
Have you had any issues with the screen going completely black when it becomes night time. I've gotten everything else in the game to work properly, but if I wanted to fully play the game I'd had to rest every time that it turns night.
