I enjoy playing this game immensely, though I would love it if there was a way for the program to actually turn the music down to nothing or a very slight background din.

I've moved the "Music" lever all the way to the left, click Okay, and it just keeps playing. Any thoughts/suggestions? I've noticed that this started within the past year or so.

Have you tried deleting/renaming the music files themselves?

No. Excellent suggestion. How do I locate those?

Well, I just tested it, and deleting the files causes the game to crash. However what you can do is replace them with blank mp3 files. I created such a folder for you. You can download it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ucufspx3krrr9ru/Music.zip

Here is what you do:
_ Locate your game's folder.
_ Inside you find a "Music" folder. Back it up by renaming it to something like "Music Backup"
_ Download the zip folder from the link above. Unzip it into your game's folder. You should have a music folder with empty mp3 files.

If you ever want to have your music back, simply remove this folder and restore your music backup folder. Or you can copy individual tracks.

Thanks! I will give this a shot within the next few days.

Agreed!

Unfortunately, it didn't seem to work. The game just keeps crashing no matter what I do, save for replacing the original files. Thanks, though.

Strange. I tested and it worked for me...

It's just a folder with empty mp3 files. The game should just play the files from this folder. Are you sure you unzipped it correctly to the game folder. Can you show a screenshot of your folder.

If it still crashes, try this. Download the 5 minutes of silcence mp3 file from here:
http://support.digitalchalk.com/support/solutions/articles/59474-blank-media-files-for-chalkboards-20-minutes-15-minutes-10-minutes-5-minutes

Use this file to replace the files in Music folder (after backing it). Make multiple copies of it and rename it to 2.mp3, 3.mp3... etc

Okay. I'll try that.

Regardless of the outcome, I really appreciate all of the effort you have put forward. Thank you!
The volume slider works for me, so I'll just tell you how I have things set-up.

Installed the game from Galaxy.
Installed the GrayFace patch.
Made "Music" folder to which I moved all the .mp3 files from the "SOUNDS" folder.
SOUNDS folder must have the "Audio.snd" file in it.

Not sure if these make a difference, but:
MM7Setup has this configuration - Full Screen, HW Acceleration, DirectSound3D.
Also, I removed windows 95 compatibility mode from MM7.exe (slows down the game).

6 years later this fixed my issue haha thanks!!
Here's what works for me.

1. Move the music slider all the way down. (lowest possible setting)

2. Close control panel and save your game.

3. Exit out of the program.

4. Restart game.

At this point the slider should remain on the lowest setting with the music gone. Hope it works for you.
