I am currently downloading Might and Magic 10 from Steam. It looks like the Might and Magic I wanted 9 to be. I was going to bed, but not anymore. This may be an all-nighter. I'll post back and say if it is the real deal or not. This is an early access game, so hopefully it isn't too rough.

Too bad it uses Ubisoft's UPlay as third party DRM, as if Steam isn't enough already. I'd like to see the game on GOG one day.

Yea, I noticed that, but it was easy to set up and I don't much care about DRM anyway. There are only 4 races and 4 classes to start. Human Battlemage, Elven Ranger, Dwarf Fighter type, and a Half-Orc something or other. I didn't check cause I've never considered Half-Orcs as PC's. There are a bunch more, but they're not available yet (early access game) You start in Sorpigal By the Sea. There are tons of references to earlier games. Mechanics are very similar to M&M 6-8. I didn't even need the hint windows. I'm about to head to the trainers after clearing out a giant spider colony.

I'm interested to see what it's like.

Hopefully you and any other GOG members who have it will be able to give us plenty of information!

So far, wandering around the town is pretty much like M&M 6-8, but the wilderness around town has a definite Wizardry 7 and 8 vibe. It's feeling a bit clunky (early access). I'm hoping they're still going to add more npc's. Town feels a bit depopulated. I'll write more as I go through it more. I work quite a bit so I only have an hour or two at most to play in a day.
I've played around 3 hours of this early access version, and at the very least I can confirm that it feels like a Might and Magic game. It's sort of janky and broken (which is obvious, since the game is at least 4 months out from release), but it plays like a cross between the DOS era games (III-V) and the later, free-roaming ones (VI-IX) leaning more towards the former. Liking what I've played so far.
It's the real deal. I never had to work so hard to get a few levels ;p I'm still pissed off that I cannot buy the Deluxe boxed version. So far it's been a lot of fun.

Hey, quick question. So by the mechanics being similar to 6-8 you mean it's got the same skill system? Does it trend more to the MM 8 side (classes sort of being a combination of race and class and have their own specific skills) then? Sort of how it sounds from the description.

It looks like they've changed the skill names, but the skills are pretty much the same. Each race seems to have inherent strengths. I don't know if I've seen them all yet. The movement isn't exactly free roaming so far. corridors with larger open areas. Combat is nearly identical to Wizardry 7 and 8. It's more tactical than Might and Magic games usually are. You have to square up your opponents. When you encounter something, the game automatically puts you in turn based mode.

I thought the game was entirely turn-based... how do the real-time segments work? Something like Dungeon Master I guess?

Thanks. I'm considering getting into the early access myself, though from the Steam boards it's tough to see what's genuinely wrong with the game over all the complaints on UPlay and being grid based.

So far from what I've seen it sounds like the main problems are that the game is a bit of a resource hog and that crashes can potentially happen when mashing attack as fast as possible or using knockback skills. Did you run into anything more serious?
So far i realy like the game its unfinished and still has a lot of bugs. But i realy like what is going on there. Also they will add an Editor so a lot of fanbased remakes of other dungeons and maybe world of xeen or so incoming :-D
Uplay is not a big concern for me since they added the offline function some time ago so it does not matter if theyr servers have problems you can still play.
The Steam forums are just full of complaints and trolls who complain about outdated graphics, gridbased and that early access is a ripoff and the game should allready be finished etc. just the normal steam stuff basically. But i can recomend the game for every might and magic 4 and 5 fan. fans of 6-9 might not be as satisfied because its grid based. also you might want to wait till its more complete. currently only 1 act and a lot of bugs and balancing inssues (not unplayable).
If you buy it off of steam I hear you get Might and magic 6 as well, is this true or do I have to buy it off of the website to get the bonuses???

Yeah, I ended up picking it up on Steam and Might and Magic 6 showed up in my library. Haven't tried it yet myself, but from what I hear it works fairly well (compatible with Win7 64 bit), music tracks are in MP3 form though they take a couple seconds to start up, and it's compatible with Grayface's patch.
