yoble: So M&M VIII keeps crashing right at the last dungeon (Escator - The Destroyer) as soon as you zone in. I can't believe how frustrating this is! It has worked fine all the way through and now I'm a few centimeters from the finish line and game breaking bug appears.

I'm running Win 7, after you click 'Enter' you see the dungeon and its fine for about 2 seconds and then the game simply freezes and then immediately crashes to the desktop with the standard application error warning.

Is anyone else this far yet? Would like to confirm its not just me... :(
No it's not just you mate. it's done the same thing to me twice (with 2 different parties)

Good news: the solution is in Post 4.

Yes, it is still annoying, but the game can be completed.

I know this is an old bump, but this thread details my problem exactly. I'm crashing at the prison of the earth lord immediately every time I enter it. Turning the sound, music, and voice completely down does not fix it. The entire rest of the game worked fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

You have to turn music off. Not just move the slider completely down

Sorry, been a time since I played it. I thought there was an option... but maybe I dont remember right and you just use the slider.

Are you turning music off before entering?

Are you using any mods?

I loaded up an old save game and set things according to the screen shot, and I was able to enter Escaton's Palace and walk around some. When I had the Music slider set higher, the game would crash after I entered.

I have WIndows 7 and I use the base GOG install. I use the "MM8-Rel.exe" shortcut to start the game, since that one doesn't have a few sound issues that the default shortcut has (like stammering speech when taking a boat).

Edit to add: Right, you said the Prison of the Earth Lord was giving you trouble. I just tried that one, and I was able to enter and move a little even with music turned all the way up. I'm not sure where your issue lies. I seem to recall having to turn the music "off" for one of the prisons, but I don't recall which any more (Fire Lord's, maybe?).

I remember this happening to me a few years back, don't think I ever found a fix for it even though its fine on new saves now

I turned OFF Windows 95 compatibility (I'm using Win10 like everybody else) and that seems to have fixed it. The game no longer stutters when loading, using ship travel, or in arcomage. An easy fix for a game breaking glitch.
