Maeda_Toshiie: Ok, so just what monsters are affected by this? I have a game where I am farming gems using Sandro, and the game seems to be giving the correct amount of experience. For reference, I am using the old Dos version (patched to remove the town portal bug).
Sarisio: What amount of experience do you receive? 66,666 per character? If yes, then it is double of intended amount. Stand-alone Clouds didn't have this bug. Tthe moment Clouds is united with Darkside, exp from mobs is doubled.
But I can't remember any patch for Xeen (explicitly for town portal bug, which I hear 1st time though I finished whole game back in time, including WoX-only content). Do you play stand-alone Darkside? Do you have "weak" bug? Which is - you get "weak" debuff when don't sleep for long, but it will disappear on its own without any bad consequences, making resting much less important.
I check with two characters and both receive 33333, which is the correct amount, when killing Sandro. I also went to test against nearby monsters, Gamma Gazer, Lava Dweller and Annihilator. All give the correct amount of exp.
For reference, I started a new game, and the bug is apparent when killing the first slime (+16 exp). I might try a new game covering Vertigo and the nearby areas to see how much it actually affects the game.
Hmm, I probably have a few monsters left unkilled on the cloud's side (minus the dungeons on the World side). Or I can go to the Warzone and test it.
I have the old Dos version from the abandonware era (before GOG), which was probably the same as the one I did on floppies that went mouldy and before the days of Dosbox. That version had a bug where the game would hang when a town portal misc item is used. There is a patch that fixes it, but I suspect it has a bug for the Cloud's ending.
I've only played both games when combined, even in the old floppy days. I used to have copies of the games as separate (where you can teleport from a cloud world into the off map space), but sadly I deleted those copies.
For the weakness that disappears, I thought it affects all versions, ie weak (from lack of sleep) will disappear on its own. IIRC, there is no mechanic in Xeen that will penalize the lack of sleep (unlike some other installments in the series), and revitalize is a cheap spell in terms of SP that such a bug is relatively inconsequential, especially when you complete Barok's quest and you can recharge spell points anytime. IIRC, I have even planned my games such that I didn't even need to ever rest to recharge spell points by using training before getting Rivercity's well fixed (with some reloading, but I reload a ton for item rolling anyway).
I'm not familiar with the Southern Sphinx bug.
---------------------------------
Thoughts on exp and training in Xeen: If the bug primarily affects lower level monsters, it is only of limited benefit for early parts of the game. The money issue (unless you employ the work and bank technique, or farm gold and gems by other means) and training ground limitations affect level gains far more in the game. Even without the bug, experience becomes a joke in the Darkside. For instance, I farm gems with Sandro (for gold making with the gemstone mines), and I can kill him up to 60*24=1440 times per magical day (1 min per kill and single round combat due to character stats), and the experience is almost enough for me to gain 30 levels.
Well, the farming is getting rather mind numbing. I will probably need another >50 mil to go from L150 to L200 (max for training at Olympus).
It's a run for me to (almost) max all stats and training levels, as well as full obsidian equipment (not that difficult) equipment.
