I bought 7,8,9 and i was wondering because mm9 is the most recent one should i start out with that just bevause its the most modern?

Actually, start with ANY Might and Magic BUT 9. Including 10.

Actually, never play MM9. Ever. Pretend it doesn't even exist.

Start with the best ones: MM3, MM4-5 World of Xeen, or MM6.

Don't start with Swords of Xeen, either.

(If you do decide to play either of thewe games, don't trust the game to function properly. Save early, often, and in multiple slots, just in case something goes wrong. Swords of Xeen at least has a solid engine, but some of the scripting is buggy, and there are balance issues; on the other hand, from what I understand, MM9's engine has some serious bugs.)

MM9 can be made quite stable with minimal modding. Unfortunately it's just not as good as the others.

1 and 2 play similarly.

3, 4, and 5 play similarly.

6, 7, and 8 play similarly.

9 is a different beast.

Start with 7 out of 7, 8, 9.

9 still plays a lot like 6/7/8, but with substantially less polish.
