This may seem like a silly question but I am truly stumped. My only options seem to be "v" to view stock characters, "c" to create a new character and "#" to go to the village or something but it doesn't work anyway. I can view and create characters, no problem. I am unsure if I have successfully selected any of those characters. The instructions leave me wanting more. Can anybody help me out, please?

# is for the starting town, use the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. If you have characters in that town (saved at the inn), you will start from there.
At the beginning of the game, only town 1 is available.
You then select from those characters to form a party and are off into the game.
