I've been trying to "get into" MM IV after some comments. In some garbage in the original City I found this armor. I can't seem to find any information on it.

Thanks

edit
I found a site that seems to indicate that materials change the ability of the underlying armor. So Glass Armor is twice as expensive as normal armor--- but no other enhancement. Is that correct?

It's exactly as you say.

Here is an example website with full list of material modifiers.

You can end up with some weird combinations like glass sword or leather plate mail.

Thanks to both. I have a real hard time with the game's movement. But I do like having to have a pad of paper needed to work out clues and keep info handy. Old School
But it is interesting to see materials for armor become types of gargoyles in MMVI, Pyramids for pathways to become tokens etc.
I'll keep on pushing through the Mines to see if I can overcome my annoyance at the movement.

Yeah, I was replaying MM3 and the random generator spat out a "Burning Leather Longsword of Clover" I mean just trying to wrap my head around what that even looked like almost broke my brain.

For reference it's a longsword that has a -4 to hit, does between 0 and 3 damage physical damage, 2 fire damage, and gives the wielder +5 luck.

In other words, almost entirely useless.

You forgot the +5 fire resistance it offers. ;-)

IIRC the resistance bonus only applies to armour. Not weapons.
In MM3 it also applies to weapons, it's different in MM4+5.

Have you toggled the window in the top-right corner to display the mini-map? I think this only works if someone in your party has the Cartographer skill, but I also think that mages start with that skill automatically. Anyway, having the minimap makes it a lot easier to navigate and might mitigate your frustration somewhat.

If you don't have a cartographer I think you can learn the skill in Vertigo.
I have less time for a while for gaming. But I'm not sure I'll return to M&MIV. It's not the x,y system because I finally realized I was playing on graph paper. Once that made sense, it wasn't a problem. But I had to leave off while getting up a tower in the next town. And I'm walking back to the Orge blacksmith every other minute. Open a box, explosion, walk to the blacksmith to fix the armor, repeat. But I love the puzzles and a like. So we will see. People note the similar paths taken in developing both the M&M series and Ultima. This game shows how they shared similar traits early on.

Just checking to be sure you have a Thief (or Ninja) opening those boxes. That's what they're for: disarming the trap so it doesn't explode. You may still set off a few but you shouldn't be setting them all off.

Anyway, I totally understand not having much time for gaming, so make sure you are playing something you enjoy (even if that's not MM4)!

Had a thief but maybe had a weak one. I'll probably restart the game to be sure if things slow down. I do want to figure out how one chest that moves around a room can finally be caught.

Thanks

If this is in Castleview, I think you need to climb the tower and get its occupant to help you. Also, do not exit the game between when you talk to him and when you loot the chest. I think I did that, and now the chest runs away anyway.
