Purchased 1-6 a little over a year ago and placed the first game on my desktop to click and play. Needless to say time has not been good to me and I cannot remember how to configure the other games to load up via a desktop shortcut.

I've looked and tried to replicate how I have MMI set up but the game will not load, even with the right directories and such set up in the shortcut icon. Am I doing something wrong? I can't recall where the installation instructions are to get the other games set up and playable.

Re-Install the games as the Installer will place shortcuts on your desktop for you.

Ah thank you. That got the games to go. The only thing is, I try to load up MM2 and it starts the DOSBOX but never loads up the game. Instead I end up staying on the desktop.

Is DOSBox still open when you run MM2, or does it close immediately? If it stays open, you can possibly run the game yourself, theoretically by simply typing "mm2" (without quotes) and pressing enter.

If that doesn't work, check the .conf file. It should be in install directory and will be named something like dosboxmm2.conf. Open it in a text editor and scroll down to the "autoexec" section. Here is where it will list the commands that are run automatically in DOSBox when you launch the game. It should mount the game directory as drive C and then execute the game by running mm2.exe. If that last line isn't there you can add it. Also, if MM1 is working properly, you can go check its .conf file and compare the two. They should be quite similar.

If those lines are all there in the .conf file but DOSBox just closes immediately after you try to launch, I think you can edit the game's desktop shortcut so that it does not automatically quit DOSBox. You MIGHT also have to edit the .conf file to do this, I'm not sure. I think you can edit the shortcut by right-clicking it and going to properties, and then looking at the target field. Does anyone remember for sure how to set this up?

The idea is that if DOSBox stops closing immediately after you try to run the game, then you can see if it's giving you any error messages.
Run MM2 as administrator.

Orryyrro: Run MM2 as administrator.
Thank you. This was the easiest route for me to go for now. I will also look into the editing the config file and getting it to run so I don't have to as Administrator every time.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I can now properly enjoy MM2.

You probably don't need to mess with the config file... if the game runs properly when you run as Admin, then the config file must be set up correctly. I thought that Admin rights were not needed for DOSBox games, which is why I thought you might need to check your config file, but apparently they are in this case. I'm glad the fix was so easy.
