So I bought the game day one it was available on GoG because it's fantastic, although I already owned it on steam and played it there.

I was playing it since then and today the game crashed my pc into rebooting. I was on a mission picking up poisonous herbs against the orcs/uruks. My character picked up the first one and then my pc rebooted.

After the reboot the game asked to tune the gamma again with which did not bode well. As I expected then the game greeted me as if it had no save file yet.

For approximately two days playtime this is annoying but still doable as far as data loss goes, but I guess my point is the question why this happened? Will it happen again?

For now I will look into how to backup the save manually. Be warned.

I finished this exact mission last night and there were no crashes on my end. Running all AMD hardware (driver v22.8.2) on Win 10.
I don't really think it's related to the mission. However in any case a corrupted save is the worst case; it might have been a freak incident.

Even if assuming my PC is at fault this should never happen. It also has never and I've been gaming a few decades.

Good general advice for all GOG users.

This just happened to me. PC went to BSOD and restarted and lost all my progress on the game. Read that it happened before on a steam forum, so I think it's got something to do with the game itself.
Since the forums have been renamed for the entire Middle Earth series: this thread was created when only Shadow of Mordor was here, so that's the subject.

I encountered this at the very end of the final mission. I'd intended to still do a couple of skipped over sword legacy missions afterward - but yeah, not gonna happen. Somewhat unbelievable that there's only a single save game, without an automatic backup. Really glad that I only encountered this crash-and-buh-bye-profile when I was basically done with the game anyway, as I'd be supper annoyed if it had happened a couple of missions earlier.

I was playing it then and today the game crashed my pc into rebooting. Unfortunately I had the same problem. Although I have a backup of my save files, the game does not see these save files even if I put the backed up files to the place where the saves are kept. I put the save files I backed up where they should be, I am opening the game and I see the message "start new game". I can't get back to my save file even though I have cloud-based backup. This makes no sense. I lost too much time.

I have the issue where mine reboots the PC and my save is nonexistent, but mine occurs everytime I try to equip runes to weapons. I can do anything else in the game, the minute I get to that screen and equip a rune or switch weapons... boom PC crash and reboot to a nonexistent save so I have to restart the game.
Unfortunately I'm not the only one with this problem. My pc also crashed, restarted and came back without any saves.
sadly,i have same problems
My games save data was lost after computer power outage.I can't get back to my save file even though I have cloud-based backup.I had almost beat the game.sad and angry
Forgive my english very poor.
I made a script creating automated backups and also removing older ones. Paste this into a batch file (.bat) and change savedir and gamedir to your directories. Then start the game with it. Then at least you have the data of your last session and can restore it.

@echo off
SETLOCAL
SET "savedir=c:\Users\Joe\Documents\WB Games\Shadow of Mordor\Saves"
SET "gamedir=c:\Games\Shadow of Mordor\x64"
SET /a retain=5

copy "%savedir%\GameData.sav" "%savedir%\GameData-%date%-%time::=%.sav"

cd "%gamedir%"
ShadowOfMordor.exe

FOR /f "skip=%retain%delims=" %%a IN (
'dir /b /a-d /o-d "%savedir%\GameData-*.sav" '
) DO DEL "%savedir%\%%a"

GOTO :EOF

Just happened to me today, all I get in GOG Galaxy is showing my achievements - 32h played, today power cut, a few seconds, PC rebooted, and when I restarted the game, I got the GAMMA control and invited to Start a New Campaign.

If you mean to tell me in 'Cloud Sync' mode, this game is able to destroy a save and be lost for good, may I suggest a fix from GOG like KEEP AN ARCHIVE of my saves, as they're only a FEW KB and give me an option 'Progress at this date' as this absolutely pi$$ p00r and I don't have 32 hours of my time to throw away !

Never had such issues with any other game, but then this one's only 1 SAVE no multiples - fair enough, but forums are fuming so fix it (devs) as it's a game bug or accomodate save restore (GOG, STEAM etc)!
All this reports are scaring me !!
I never made a backup of my save... O_O

Luckily I finished all the story campaigns without issues at all !!

Just use Game Save Manager https://www.gamesave-manager.com/

It has settings where it automatically saves games files for every few mins.
I put in about 25 hours of intense playtime. My PC suddenly crashed and when I restarted the game the entire savegame was gone at once.

Now I've played again for about 2 hours and it happened again.
Why? Can anyone help?

I've already contacted GoG Galaxy Support but I'm still waiting for an answer!

For now im scared to play any games on GoG and will delete it for now. It sucks...
