For whatever reason, GOG/Ziggurat decided to publish the DOS version of this game, which is the worst version possible. That said, compared to other EGA ports of the 1980s, the DOS version is actually ... not terrible.

However, there is room for optimisation. The EGA port only uses beeper music, and uses the infamous PC beeper to the best of its ability. But Microprose Soccer for DOS also supports the Tandy 1000, which has graphics of equivalent quality to EGA video cards, but also supports that computer's moderately superior audio hardware.

Go into the DOSBOX/Configuration folder of the game folder and open dosbox.conf with Notepad. Change "machine=svga_s3" to "machine=tandy". The next time you boot up the game, make sure you select "Tandy" from the start menu. Et voilà: proper three-channel beeper music.
