So I'm trying to play this game but its randomly crashing all the time since I started. Now I'm at the chapter titled "Bandits" and can't proceed any further as the game keeps crashing at the exact same spot every time. It's not the fault of my PC as it's top of the line and Last Light is the only game I'm having problems with.
If there's no fix I would like my money back for what seems to be a faulty product.

have you tried turning off PhysX ?

masterian: have you tried turning off PhysX ?
Yup I did that but it didn't help.
I'm experiencing the exact same problem.
In chapter 5 it keeps crashing to desktop at the same spot over and over again.
Is there any help?
Last Light crashes in chapter "Bandits", check, same here.
I disabled PhysX, but IDK if that was the solution on my end because right after I had my fastest "run" through that section of the level after playing it like 6 or 7 times already. So I got through.

It's incredible, really. How can this game SERIES have such unique and consistent CTD issues?! In 2033, the same shit happened. First a freeze, then a bit later, CTD. In just one level in the middle of the game. Now the same shit here.

But, on top of that CTD that I managed to get past, now I'm utterly stuck. A few levels after Bandits, you have to fight the boss "Big Momma". Once that is done, and the water-cutscene wraps up, it's not a loading screen, but straight CTD. Consistently, no matter what PhysX setting is, now been trying for a solid 2h. 5 or 6 attempts already. This time though there's nothing you can even do. The cutscene ends with a CTD, game over.

Sorry, but, how the fuck do they fuck this up so bad, repeatedly. It's gotta be something with the engine. If it happened at the start of the game, or maybe even shortly after loading and only sometimes, then who cares. But midway through the game or towards the end, when you're already invested in the story... and only when you have 20min of unsaved progress right before reaching a checkpoint... repeatedly...
Win7 x64, 1080Ti.

*Edit:
I ran it on lowest settings possible, in windowed mode, with PhysX disabled AND set to "CPU" in Nvidia control panel, in safe mode. All at the same time, even.

I'm here to report I found a workaround for my particular crash at level transition to loading screen.
*This is probably a different issue from the crash mid-level

As it turns out, there's a bug that causes, let's call it, "autosave corruption" to occur, in some levels more than in others. There is no way to recover from this that I know of, and you're still perfectly able to play the save so you don't even know it happened, until the level ends. The corruption might happen at any point throughout the level, and you'll never notice until you attempt to complete the level at which point it'll crash to desktop. It only seems to affect the saving process at the very end of the level. Everything else seems to be in perfectly working order.

The "workaround" to this is, yes, you might have guessed it - replay the entire level by going through the "chapter select" instead of the "continue". And hope that the next try at the level doesn't lead to another corrupted save.

If I wasn't so invested with the series, I'd have ditched it by now...

I am pi**ed when i read - "Nvidia the way its ment to be played".

The game ctd in Metro Redux 2033 and Last light Redux as well - after 3 hours of playing in both games.
I wouldnt recomment contacting support as they have no clue - they adviced me to setup a 1080p resolution to fix this - on my 16:10 monitor and install GOG galaxy to verify integrity (which also is done duting installation /reinstall)

Running a gameing rig with 8core Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU, GFX RTX3070, x570 motherboard (full PCI4 Lane), 16GB RAM, 1TB M2 SSD on max grafical settings at 1680x1050 resolution (16:10 - native monitor.)

In Metro 2033 Redux Chapter "Defense" - cdt
In Metro Last Light Redux Chapter Bandits - cdt

I managed to circumvent the crash after lots of testing and retrying.

How i did:
Installed h t t p : / / www.microsoft.com/de-de/download/details.aspx?id=35]DirectX with webinstaller as recommended by GOG.

In nvidea 3d settings > enable threaded optimization
On application icon Metro.exe > enable run as admin > enable compatibility WinVista 2
In Game grafic settings (ingame) reduce all settings to lowest; low textures, disable SSOA, Disable tesselation, disable motion blur, enable vsync.
Under game settings (ingame)> disable advanced physx > restart game afterwards

In Last light > Restart complete chapter "Bandits" - after that chapter i could turn grafix back to max.
In Metro Redux 2033 chapter "defense", I had to speedrun the chapter partwise so i managed to run the game max 2 min each "part" until i finished chapter "defense". After that chapter i could set all back to max.

Generell issues i had:
I experienced monster slowly lifting into the ceiling - even my toon was able to walk up a straight wall when i sneaked backwords. At times rubble pushed me into the ceiling... Bulllets hanging in the air, smoke, lightning not shown correctly > especially with tesselation on the game has many more issues. Unless there is a major discount i wouldndt recommend buying it.

pS:CDT in Last light when rnunning "Big Mamma" > same steps solved the issue until "mama was done" > then i put back full gfx
