My Xbox One controller isn't responding at all for MGS1. I make sure it's on before I launch the game, I've tried various USB ports, nothing. I even tried installing that fan patch from reddit that's been shared around, but it still didn't work and created more issues so I uninstalled it.

Any idea how I can fix this? The keyboard controls are awful.

Just out of curiosity, when you say that you tried several different USB ports, you're talking about connecting the controller by usb cable or you're using a wireless dongle?

I played just 10 minutes with the Xbox One controller connect by cable and didn't have a problem.

I figured it out. Although it's a weird solution, other folks may wanna try it if they're having trouble. Sign out of Steam. Maybe something with Steam's control configuration functionality was interfering with the game. Who knows. But it's playable now.

I have the same problem. Xbox One Elite controller - controls not recognised and I can't rebind them.

Signing out of Steam doesn't fix it for me.

Finally identified the problem. I had a HOTAS controller attached and the game was trying to use that as the controller, rather than my Xbox One controller. Unplugging the HOTAS has fixed it.

there are a few things you can try to fix your xbox one controller not responding in Metal Gear Solid1:

Make sure your controller is fully charged. If the battery is low, the controller may not respond correctly. My favorite Xbox one replacement battery pack from eblofficial, don't need to worry about my controller running out of power.

Make sure your controller is properly connected to your console. If you're using a wired controller, make sure it's plugged in to the correct USB port. If you're using a wireless controller, make sure it's properly paired with your console.

Check for updates to the game and console. Sometimes updates can fix issues like this.
