Normally it wouldn’t matter whether or not you use widescreen to play a video game. Obviously you want to use as much of your screen’s real estate as possible when playing a game right. Well for Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 you might want to reconsider doing this.
This is because of the way the game is balanced.
It’s a top down stealth em up and you don’t have much in terms of field of view and neither do the enemies. The game is built with this handicap in mind. If you use a widescreen fix you will gain greater peripheral awareness, which will allow you to see enemies from further away. This will give you an advantage the game was not meant for, thus making things a little too easy since you’re supposed used to use mechanics like wall hugging and binoculars to see where things are.
I wanted to share this because I see a lot of people jumping on the whole widescreen fix thing and I don’t think they’ve considered the fact that this might hurt their experience with the game.
