When I start the game I'm given a choice of resolution and immediatly the game crashes (Messia3dfx.exe has stopped working) I tried running it compatibility mode and safe mode but the same issue happens. I tried every resolution and no dice.

The thing is Die by the Sword is doing the same thing to me. Please help! It's really frustrating to have bought 2 games and have them not work
There is a 3DFX driver emulator floating around.

nGlide I believe it is called? http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide

I have it installed, and the game runs perfectly. However, since I installed it well before so I could play Blade of Darkness, it may or may not have anything to do with it.

I run Vista 64-bit, for reference.
In case that didn't work for you, use the overall setup routine from this post http://www.gog.com/forum/messiah/messiah_composite_quick_start_thread which makes the D3D version work. I couldn't get the 3dfx version to work at all, even with a driver emulator, so I worked out how to get d3d going.

Have you tried using the dgVoodoo? Just extract all the Glide.dll files from the x86 folder to the game installation folder.
