So I just bought Men of War: Assault Squad (with GOTY DLC), but maybe it was a mistake. I was hoping to play online with a friend, but when I go to the multiplayer option in the menu it says I have to connect through GameSpy and starts talking about CD keys, which is obviously nonsense. I have neither a CD nor a Key. I guess GameSpy still exists, but does that really work? Or am I supposed to use Galaxy instead somehow?

I'm a bit confused.

I suppose you need an alternative to GameSpy.
I can't help with those, because I've never tried them, sorry.
