Hey all,

I used to think I was pretty good at video games... until I picked up MegaRace 2.

There's just something about this game that I'm not getting. I was stuck on Tibet for the longest time, smashing into walls, getting turned around, etc. Somehow I got through it, and was able to plow through the next couple of levels... but now I'm on the Bayou, and I haven't finished any higher than 7th, after more races than I care to say.

Here are the things I've learned about this game:

- Powersliding (drifitng) seems to slow you down.
- Bumping into walls at high speed and turning off of them *doesn't* seem to slow you down.
- Weapons seem to be largely useless, except maybe to get someone off your tail in the home stretch.
- The Bayou level has lots of multiple paths, but there seems to be one path that is the fastest (the one the first place CPU car always takes)
- Getting spun around is way, way too easy. (I'm using the Astra B -- could that be the problem? I wish there was a manual for this game...)

Are there any MegaRace 2 experts out there who would care to give some tips? There's something about this game that keeps me playing it, but I'm getting tired of seeing Lance Boyle and his assistant (in here high-waisted, '80s throwback bikini) making those faces at me.
I had this back on Win 95, loved it and the graphics. With regards to your problems bouncing off walls is important and the best way to pass someone out. The weapons are useful but only the red missile and mines. I think 4 red missiles takes a car out of the race. Bayou is definitely the hardest map but if you can get through the first two races it's much easier with no mines on the course for the third race. The next map (Bronx) is real easy, you'll have the game finished in no time.
It's just plain difficult - classic 90s!
Thanks for the reply JohnnySerpico. I gave up on the game, but may have to try dusting it off again thanks to your advice!
Didn't play this game for 10 years or something, what a blast from the pas :D
I'm also biting off my nails at Bayou. Managed to finish first on first round, 3rd on second on one of my tries (among 30+ attempts) but epic fail on 3rd round. So I have to redo all of it again and again and again... I wish I could save between rounds :(
I'm driving the Strata VII btw, best one so far though the CoCoon looks even better.

EDIT: ok, it's weird I decided to give it a shot again and got through Bayou on the first try earning first place. I got some help from one of the drivers though who went in the opposite direction slowing down the other cars.

Powersliding is inefficiet, yes. But sometimes it's unavoidable with the sharp turns.
When you powerslide in a middle of a hard turn, try making sure that when you bump into the wall, that's it's mostly the rear of the car that's hitting it. The way the physics work in this game, it will push your car in whatever direction you're facing. (ish)

Weapons are mostly useless, I only spend money on mines and some medium missiles.

Getting spun around is somewhat easy if you're in certain situations, if you see that things are a bit too tight and hectic, just back up if you have laps to spare.
