I'm wondering if the game files will be made available a few days early before the game goes on sale so the servers aren't hit by everyone downloading the files at once.

Usually if that's the case the files would be available by now. I think this is going to be much like Control's release; keep the computer on and hope that you can download it faster than the next user.

Disappointing.
