Hi guys.
I bought this game on epic just after launch and drop it after the first 50 hours of gameplay. Was a frustrating experience I don't wish to repeat. I saw there is a new expansion coming with IA improvements listed as features and I willing to give it another try here on GOG.
I wish to know if had them correct the spawn system. I tried some spawn improvement mods back there but was far from a good solution.
I mean, Is this game worth a new try? Have them finally created a good gameplay experience?
I can't comment on how the game now compares to how it was back when it was epic-exclusive, but I would say it's decent now. But as with most things, it's the mods that really make it shine - specifically, 'Yet Another Mechlab'. There are other good mods (though many are borderline to outrigt overpowered), but that one deserves to be the core of anyone's playthrough.

Yea. I think I installed earlier. I was checking if mods could corrected some flaws of the initial release. Its a nice mod and I liked it too.
But my main concern is about the IA and spawn systems. I notice they are releasing a new DLC with AI improvements, but I wish to know if spawns are working with a more realistic behavior now. Back there, spawns was a real issue causing enemy mechs appear around you from thin air. Last time I checked, and that was not much time ago, spawns was still working that way.
There are AI mods which can go a long way towards making the AI not completely braindead - vanilla still tends to walk into close range, making no attempt to keep distance, but there's XenoAI and TTrules AI (combineable, though I don't recall offhand exactly what each mod does), but with those you have a number of roles (sniper, flanker, brawler, and so forth) that while not brilliant, are far better then vanilla's walk-forwards-and-die.

As for spawning, the only enemies that 'pop-in' are turrets that have an animation where they rise out of a protected foundation, so while annoying, it's not pop-in in the typical sense. Mobile enemies are generally very good about spawning at a distance and out of the line of sight. There are still rare issues with enemies (even missiion-critical ones) spawning underground where they can't be touched, but that's still quite rare and if it's a mobile enemy, restarting the mission will usually fix it (an immobile target, like a box you need to pick up means you're screwed though - that mission can't be done)

I started a new campaign yesterday and I glad to see they corrected the spawns. Didn't occured with me until this point so I take is working well now. After about 8 hours of gameplay, I could check many things they finally corrected and tuned.
AI still a little dumb, but nothing you can't handle by issuing orders to them. Explains why the AI will receive improvements on next expansions too.
I liked it overall. So much I buyed the game here on GOG with all current expansions.
After about 2 years of waiting, I will finally play the Mechwarrior's sequence I was looking for.

Thanks for the info jomiculormph.

I actually don't think you need mods to make the game decent. It's come a long way from 2-3 years ago. Definitely worth playing now!
If you want to endlessly hand out cash to buy the game they chopped up to sell to you in pieces at a far higher price.... f'k these and devs like them.
