In the room with the three raised towers with blowing air, I can't jump and parachute to the lowest one. I go to the top of the ramp and jump and glide but I always end up well short of the top of the tower.

I've watched this done on a "let's play" video and it seemed to be straightforward, not requiring any special skill. Why can't I get high enough? This is really frustrating. I want to finish this game!

I just completed the game. What I did was had turbo on the whole time, and took care of all the enemies before jumping. Now jump from almost the top of the ramp, and keep gliding. You should be able to make it.
