I got the same several errors as I did when I tried to play quake EXCEPT instead of winsock IPX fail I got a black screen. Seems like a resolution problem. Music plays though. How fix?

And how do you turn the game off? It was playing still even though I thought I had exited it (all I got was a black screen so I could not tell what I was doing... and there is no task manager.)

Have you tried adamhm's wrapper to install and run the game? These scripts usually installs all the necessary packages and libraries for you and gives suprisingly good results.
