In a nutshell: fun game, varied levels (it doesn't get too repetitive), impressive graphics for the time (even on low-end computers). Nowadays, however, it has some graphics glitches with modern hardware/software (but there are workarounds).
This game is a third-person shooter that is as good as many first-person shooters out there. Lots of action everywhere. It also has a "sniper" mode, which is required for a few challenges.
When it was released, the graphics were really impressive. Even more: it could deliver high-quality graphics even on very low-end computers. They used pre-rendered graphics for your character, so it looks very smooth and detailed, even though the rest of the game uses low-poly models.
The levels have varied themes, sometimes with strong colors, and look very nice. Some levels have semi-transparent glasses or even mirror-like reflections. Should I remember you that this game was designed to be played on Pentium CPUs around 90 ~ 200 MHz?
The game also has many "jokes": the items (and their names), the enemy animations, and so on. They are not incredibly funny, but they are at least worth a smile. :)
It also has a very nice soundtrack that sticks to your head for a while.
The controls feel a bit odd by today's standards, so you might want to spend some time to customize them for WASD scheme, or to get used to the classic controls (arrows to move, ctrl to fire). By the way, keyboard, mouse and joystick are supported, and they're all customizable.
Unfortunately, this game has some compatibility issues with modern hardware/software, maybe related to 8-bit textures, with lots of graphic glitches. Please look at forums for a nice workaround (look for "glide wrapper").
