What's in the title. There are significant differences between the SNES game and the Mega Drive original. Which one is this based on?

it's based on the windows 3.1 version which is basically an improved sega mega drive version, it has better graphics, sound effects and redbook cd audio music (if the dev's bothered to include said cd audio i dunno if they did since i didn't buy it on GOG but i do have the win3.1 original)

just bought it and tried it out and... ngl this is an interesting compatibility tweak or whatever it is since i cannot get it into a normal windowed mode state which the original always booted up in

edit: figured out how to boot it up in windowed mode, booting it up through GOG Galaxy makes it go into borderless fullscreen and for some reason windows does not detect the game being active? (the game icon does not appear in the task bar)

The "improved" graphics are honestly one of my bigger gripes with this version. The Megadrive's spritework with the thatching on a more limited palette was more appealing to me than this version with its broader palette that led to respriting everything with dull gradients that don't flow very well. The OST is pretty killer, though... and... it's not a part of the goodies that come with the GOG purchase. Sighhh.

You can find the OST in the MUSIC folder in the game's directory. They aren't labeled, but it's better than nothing.

I played the SNES version back in the day, and that version feels almost like a different game. The powerups have differing functions, the graphics are different, the style of a lot of things is different, even mechanics are different. These I remember clearly. I also remember the controls to be a bit snappier and smarter, but that maybe wrong and I can't compare the verison right now. I mean, I am kinda disappointed to be honest. I expected something different.

SNES version may as well be a completely different game considering how much is different in that version,

like i said before the PC version is based off the Sega Mega Drive version which only came out in all European countries and Brazil (European version is called "Donald in Maui Mallard" while in every other country on earth it's called Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow and the Disney Classic Video Games 2 version is called Donald Duck in Cold Shadow, beats me why this is the case)
