Can someone do an old man a huge favor and help him relive his childhood and introduce his 10 year old son to MOO2?

I literally don’t use windows and haven’t for 10 years. But I badly want to introduce my son to this wonderful game. I have my original cd and my wife has a windows 10 computer. I find tutorials on how to make the game work using dosbox which I’ve downloaded but I’m simply completely overwhelmed by all the instructions involved and most assume the reader has a working knowledge of making all these file adjustments and whatnot. Does anyone have a step by step tutorial written so a total idiot like me can get this game to work? Different mods, multiplayer abilities and the like are unneeded. I simply want to use my cd to play the original game using my cd. I GREATLY appreciate anyone that can steer me in the right direction and would even happily Venmo someone that can help a reasonable sum.

I think you will find that people around here are experts in getting the GOG version to work.

Right now you can get both I and II for just 5.99. And it works right out of the box. No CDs necessary. No messing around with DOSBOX.

Perfect, I’ll try it right now as I’m stuck at home with a broken leg!
GOG worked perfectly and easy to load, even for a tech dummy like me! Thanks a million! Can’t wait to share this game with my son!

No trouble! I'm an old guy myself. I have a collection of game CDs too (also there are a few useless floppys still about). But getting those old things to work on modern computers is a lot more work than I like and sometimes it just fails no matter what you do. So when I see one of these old things on GOG, I usually gobble it up.
I REALLY recommend the 1.50 patch though, even if you only use its standard version (only fixes) but GOG bundles MoO2 with the old 1.4 fan patch so at least it is playable. https://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series/master_of_orion_2_unofficial_150_patch

The first game is also worth playing, just turn up the DOSBox speed a bit first. Fan patch not as important for this one.

The games are playable in Linux, Windows and on Macs too.

Vogons.org had step by step instructions on how to get the games to work using the CD/floppy versions.
I’ll research the fan patch! Grateful for the information!

GOG.com is also my favorite place and I am also an old person. I'm not tech illiterate but I have some old games that I've not installed for years, some still have 5.25 floppy disks for my Ultima Games. I still even have my box with Dungeons of Daggorath.

I grew up playing Masters of Orion and I absolutely adored the 2nd and even the 3rd game. I can remember actual LAN parties with me and my friends playing masters of orion 3. It turns out that there was a bug in the code for that game that would cause the computer players to freeze on their turns later in the games. It only happened with multiplayer.
