Hello, humans. I would love to play some 4X-lovely games, but every one I try, saddens me more.

All I have tried, or lacks several aspects of MOO2 that I love (user-friendly UI, each faction IS different, the research tree is fun and has sense, the ship designing tool is awesome, the TURN BASED combat, (the lack of RTS shit in general) the sensible and comprehensible 2D map, the "fast paced" gameplay and turns, etc)

So, are there any hope? Or I will have to play MOO2 forever? (not a bad thing, but you know...xD)

I Know there is going to be a MOO3 (it IS the 3rd), so yeah, I´ll wait for it, but Im talking other franchises that could interest me and bring me and my race happyness.

All other 4X games I have tried were found lacking with https://www.gog.com/game/galactic_civilizations_ii_ultimate_edition holding my interest for two days. FreeOrion is still in development and it has starlanes :-( The others I cannot even remember the names of.

Yes, I did. I will give it another chance, but I preffer the UI from the second, that and that it seems less "number-centric" with those production and researxch bars, etc. Another downfall is the fact that there is NO GNOLAMS! Innadmissible!

Master of Magic instantly leaps to mind. It is another TBS game from '94 that is insanely good.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3 are TBS, although not sure if they count as 4x they are most often played and enjoyed by ppl that play MoO2.

Eador Genesis is also a great TBS game and I enjoy it so much.

Let me know if you have already tried and/or liked/disliked any of these.

Do NOT even bother expecting anything from MOO3, you will want to kill them it sucks so bad. It's been out since Feb 2003. I tried the demo and didn't like it and eventually bought the full game for $10 and wanted my money back so badly.

I enjoy the Space Empires series a lot. A bit old but there's good mods out for it.

I think Space Empires V is a bit deeper, but it has real time battles and it's not for everyone.

I have indeed, tried Master of Magic: it is INCREDIBLE. I milked it way ago.
Eador/HoMaM, etc.... I love those games, but, for me, they are not 4x, at all.

Space Empires, i LOVE the boardgame, so maybe, i could try... I remember having played a demo or something, I didn´t quite understand it. Maybe a Youtube LP helps. xD

PS: Espace Empires has RTS combats? What a bummer... :_(

It's not in the space but... have you tried the Age of Wonders serie ? Especially Age of Wonders 1 or Shadow Magic ?

And maybe take a look at these ones, I still haven't played them but they can be interesting :
- Sid Meier's Colonization
- Conquest of the New World
- Imperialism
- Call to Power 2
- Deadlock 1 & 2 (but I don't know how the fights are in these ones)

But none of them is really close in gameplay and/or athmosphere to MoO2 unfortunately :P
And maybe they don't correspond to your definition of a 4x... but I still hope it will help :)

Superpower2 does not look immediately like such a game, but it is. It is just soooo much slower than MOO titles. It is not a turnbased game, but you literally control the time and can even halt it at will.

What I enjoy about it, like I enjoy about MOO titles is the overall strategy, use of spies, diplomacy and toy with other governments. You have lots of economy and there is of course a huge military aspect to the game with nuclear weapons. And of course the 150+ nations/races with their own agenda in the game.

A couple of games I always liked, but are probably not good for anyone not interested in the source material. Star Trek: Birth of the Federation (not available here yet) or Star Wars Rebellion. I always enjoyed them and they have a lot of similarities to MOO2. Also Imperialism and Imperialism 2 are very good, but old ones. Along those lines are the Europa Universalis games. I have only played 1 and 2 but they are both great. If you want a game that is long and very in depth, that is your game series. Kind of surprised no one mentioned that one.
