I vaguely remember a feature where you could save a text file that created an 'Autobuild priority list' of items to be built in order, e.g.

automated factory
robo miner
robotic factory
deep core mine
cloning center
Terraforming
... etcetera, so autobuild defaulted to the next item on the list that was available.

I'm not finding anything about this in google, so I may be remembering a similar feature from Civ II that I just *wanted* to be in MOO2, but I really don't think so.

Does anyone else remember anything about this?

It is correct the patch has that function.

Its not correct, actually, build lists of patch 1.50 have nothing to do with the Autobuild (assuming versions pre 1.50.18). Autobuild is a function used by AI to build stuff according to AI ideas about it (even if used by human player: it will act as if AI player is playing for this faction (ofc only regarding managing of stuff to build on planets)); it take some odd factors into consideration for decisions to make, and its absolutely not a some simple "list".

Yes, you are right. There is an auto build function in the vanilla game but that one is totally useless, UNLESS you could actually modify the list yourself. I never did explore such a possibility as I turned it off back in 1996 and never turned it on again. So, could a normal non-tech savvy person do it? I read it as the OP wanted to make their own list(s).

No, its not. For example player could use it for a more fair game vs AI. Also it always been fine enough for a low performance games. OP wanted to recall if he dreamed some feature of Autobuild or it was real, clearly stating so. Just if you decide to not ignore a stupid useless necropost, but correctly bash it in wrong part of "But was not when OP wrote their post back in 2013. " it also reasonable to bash it in other wrong and misleading part of the fact of the feature mentioned is not being an actual part of patch 1.50.

It is very clear that what nickwelp posted about is what the OP was asking about. It's not "autobuild", but the OP didn't know the proper name. He was fishing based on incomplete information. No, when he posted it wasn't in MOO2.

It's also the same thing I asked about in 2012, and I was very happy in 2016 when someone necro'd that thread to give me the answer. Helpful necros, like Manikinator's then, or nickwelp's here, are a good thing. Pending question threads are pending.

If you will try to re-read your own words you will see what you claims OP was searching for non-existent thing, but failed because he had incomplete information about it, and not because the thing he was searching was not exist at all.

I was mostly about false statement "It is correct the patch has that function." in next post, as its plain wrong and misleading. Bringing a concept of novelty: reporting a new feature related to thread is ok (case of 2016); reporting an old feature related to thread is useless or even damaging (case of 2020). Without it you could start to write to all threads here "You have to use Moo2 Ver 1.5, which is available on moo2mod.com" as its generally a good advice overall (despite obviously lack a novelty for quite a time).

You can also clearly see a difference in Manikinator's post written in good way and that abomination of bulk quote + general words of advice to young people in nickwelp's post.
Not even mentioning the novelty warning being present from him; he clearly say he's about not the same feature you asked about, but similar to it feature that do exist in some stuff, and that stuff could be of interest to you, as you wanted some similar thing. It very good way to do. Also he do a brief explanation of functionality he's about and provide a demonstration link. Its very good way to do again.
AIso, if you see what its the same thing, why simply not provide a link to that answer then?
