Hello all, I started a Mrrshan game in a Huge Galaxy with 5 Opponents at Average difficulty, figuring that if I can beat this kind of setting with the Cats, then I should be able to beat this setting with anybody.

I have some questions about the game mechanics:

Research: Mrrshan are Excellent at Weapons and Poor at Construction. This can be compensated by adjusting the sliders, but I also understand that it affects the number of choices in the research tree. Within every five levels, there must be at least one choice, with a probability of another choice. Does anybody know what this probability is?

P = 0.4 + 0.1A where A is Aptitude? 1=Poor 2=Average 3=Good 4=Excellent

Espionage: Almost 60 turns into the game, I encountered my first opponent, the Meklar. Surprisingly, they are not way ahead in Computers. We are at Tech level 2 and they are at Tech level 1. If I use a spy to attempt to steal technology, he should have an 8.5% chance per turn of success. The manual says that we now roll a number from 1 to the tech field that we are trying to steal. The Meklar have Controlled Dead Environment. (Level 9 or 10 I do not remember) Does that mean in order to steal it, I also have to roll that 9 or 10? Does the spy have an 8.5% probablity of success or a 0.85% probability?

Population Growth: It appears to be a logistic model, 10% of the population, times the uninhabited portion of the planet, plus the excess BC in ecological growth divided by 20. The growth rate might be rounded up to the next half or full percentage point, or it would take a very long time for the population to get from 99 to 100. At population 2, it seems to only take a few turns to get to 3 or 4 and I see that happen when the transports take a while to get to their destination.

G = 0.1P(1-P/C) + (E-M)/20 where P is Population, C is Capacity, E is Ecological Spending, M is Minimum Required?

EDIT: It appears the above is rounded to the nearest 0.1 Population. It also appears to add P-Integer(P) to the Growth, which explains why the population sometimes jumps by one more than what is expected sometimes, or why the early colonies seem to grow so fast.

As I think of more questions, I will ask. Thanks!

For such detailed questions, you might want to check out the realmsbeyond forums. They've never stopped playing the game, and have accumulated quite the treasure trove of information. In particular, the growth formula is explained at
