I am playing moo2 for years now and just this Christmas I played a mulitplayer game via hotseat with my brother. I never wonderd about this before, but how do you win as an alliance? Can you do that at all?

When all other races were extinct, the game did not end, even though we were allied. The galatic council did never form (because I choose a too easy difficutly level and the AI did not expand, even after 500000000000000 turns) but the council only allows for one ruler. So if one player votes for his teammate, effectively, one player wins, the other looses? Same for blasting Antares I think?

We just settled for consindering the game won after killing all other leaders.

Any advise/thoughts on this topic?
Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I know, there is no cooperative victory in MoO2 - an omission I always felt.
There's no cooperative victory. If you want to have an election victory then you need to keep at least one AI player around until the council meets, and even then, whomever isn't voted in will get the "You lose." ending.
