Encouraged by recent patch activity, I picked up the game after a long absence.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong since nobody else seems to be reporting this, but there's a lot of specials that seem to be ignored if you start a single player game with a custom race.

And no, I do not have the advanced option "allow racial traits" unchecked.

Technologist - don't start with Physics or Artifact HW
Subterranean - start with Terrain planet (should be Arid)
Cybernetic - pop uses food as per normal (should be 50% less)

What the heck is going on?

Having the same issue; hadn't played it in a very long time and was very confused that custom races seemed to not work.
Haven't verified what all is broken but was at least subterranean and lithovore.

EDIT: Seems like they know and there's a hotfix in the works:

Thanks excelsior!

Seems it isn't the only issue, either. Ah well. I am nothing if not patient.
As long as you don't have auto update enabled, you can do a roll back to the previous game version. It's what I did after discovering the issues with the new game update.
having similar issues here with the creative trait still having to pick one tech when advancing not getting all options and not receiving the 50% bonus research

Well, according to http://steamcommunity.com/games/298050/announcements/detail/1307577968584922246
it looks like the steam version received the hotfix May 5th. According to the change log, we are still on the April 25th version.

Why ist this marked as solved ?
Even the devs seem to have noticed the problem exists the custom races are still broken and no fix until now.
Custom races are one thing a lot of people (including myself) like - they worked until last patch.
As this the officialy published version - shame on the devs for killing the patient with the cure.
KInd regards
This has been fixed in the latest hotfix on GoG. If your perks are not working most likely problem is that you started a game and checked off the "allow racial traits" under advanced options. This disable all race differences so no one get any bonuses.

Easy to tell if this is the case, load game, go to diplomacy screen, if the races do not list traits then that option was turned off.

I still have that problem with a newly downloaded game from gog.

a fresh install and the race traits from custom races do not work.
I can not install he patch, as the downloadable version is newer than the patch.

Do I need to find the latest hotfix somewhere?

Edit: Here is what I can download. The patch clearly is for an older version.

You are right - the download on the main GOG site is old. Looks like currently the only way to get the hotfix is to use GOG Galaxy that will get the 55.1.1 2.41258 LOCFIX. But that is wrong they should have it for download without using GOG Galaxy.

I opened a tech ticket for this with this language:
GOG Galaxy will server up v 55.1.1 2.1.41258 LOCFIX but that is not available from stand alone download that version is stuck at 55.1 2.1.40241.

Hopefully they can get it addressed.

Looks like they have posted the latest hotfix. Unsure why they left the defunt patch still there, but the version number of the download looks promising.
