Can someone explain this whole "abandonment" thing to me? Do people really need an endless string of patches or they can't justify playing the game anymore? I just don't get it.
The game isn't "abandoned", there just isn't really anything else to do right now. You can only throw out so many patches and DLC before you simply run out. MoO2 had only a few patches and zero DLC, and needed third-party patches to fix a number of old issues; no one seemed to mind this.
edit: By the time of MoO2, most patches for any game were released through the internet. Far as I know, the only way you could get v1.31 was through a download. I think v1.1 had a reprint for it, but that's the only one I've ever heard of.
This also doesn't change my point: no one has ever seen MoO2 as a lesser game for all the problems it has. It has always been seen as a masterpiece even though it has mechanics that literally don't work. The MoO2 unofficial patch is still ongoing, just like MoO4's is.
