I just grabbed Warlock myself yesterday afternoon, then played it pretty much straight until three in the morning. Definitely has a MoM feel to it, and is a very fun game to play. The way that cities, buildings, and unit construction works requires quite a bit of planning ahead and specialization of your cities, along with balancing resource production for both cities and the overall empire. The various units with their different resistances and damage types also adds quite a bit of strategy to the combat, and pretty much requires an effective force to consist of a planned and balanced mix of forces. Then the magic system on top of that adds a whole extra bit of strategy, with the expected mix of nuke spells, summons, buffs, de-buffs, city, and global spells, along with spells (and units) only available if you build up your empire's religious relations with various gods. It also feels similar to MoM in that the world is as much your enemy as the other wizards, with particularly strong creatures guarding the best resources, and random events causing creatures to occasionally respawn across the world (even right in the center of your empire).
The game does use Steamworks, for those who care, but it's a very fun strategy game that I'd certainly recommend (and fortunately there's also a demo available for those who'd rather see for themselves rather than take my world for it).
