Hey folks. Quick question - I have Windows 7 here, and I'd like to run the Item Maker, listed as Itemmake.exe if I remember right. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on its own, and I'm not sure how to convince my computer to run it.

I'd really like to do so, because I enjoy putting in a variety of new items/artifacts - some that are just nifty utility (A movement and flying one), some that are purpose driven (Immunity to Magic and Missile on the same amulet can mean an annoying hero if the computer finds it first), and some godly items that have ridiculous stats on them - because if often leads to insane guardians for a goodly challenge.

So. Is there any way to get that part of the program running? Suggestions?
I've never used it so I don't know it's fuctions but I'd suspect that, like the game it self, you need to run it thru dosbox.
I made it work. Here's what I did:

- Made a copy of the Master of Magic shortcut that the game installer creates, and renamed it Itemmake.
- Made a copy of dosboxMOM.conf and renamed it dosboxITEMMAKE.conf. Edit - this is found in your MoM installation folder.
- edited the new shortcut (right-click -> properties) so the target reads "E:\Game files\GOG.com\Master Of Magic\DOSBOX\dosbox.exe" -conf dosboxITEMMAKE.conf -noconsole -c "exit" The only thing you change is the part that originally said "dosboxMOM.conf" and you're just popping in ITEMMAKE in place of MOM. Note that this is using my specific installation path so yours will differ at the beginning. If MoM launches fine for you then you don't need to sweat that detail - just leave the path as-is for your installation.
- used Notepad to edit the dosboxITEMMAKE.conf file that you previously created by copying and renaming. The second line at the bottom reads magic.exe and you're going to change it to itemmake.exe

That's it. Launch your new Itemmake shortcut and it will open the Item Maker for you. Hopefully it will save the items you make but I haven't tried that out.

Since this is a DOS game, going into DOSBox would've a whole lot easier. You should already have it for old games. If not dosbox.com.
I cannot see the "magic.exe" anywhere in the .conf file. can it be added somehow? It is simply not there. thanks
Odd - I just reinstalled the game and my dosboxMOM.conf file has the "magic.exe" entry at the second line from the bottom. Tell you what: I've attached my .conf file but renamed the extension to .png so the forum will accept it. Download it, rename it with the .conf extension, and edit it as described earlier.

It won't download. It says it contains errors. :\
