Forgive me if this is listed somewhere, but it is driving me insane.

Is there any easy way to switch from the "unit window" to the "upkeep summary window"? The way I've found to do it is to click on cities, go into a city view, and then exit it. Other than that, it seems you are stuck with the "unit window" until they have all moved for the turn. I need to be able to look at that summary a lot easier than that.

As your question stands, no; the game tends to want you to allocate all active units first. There are some keyboard shortcuts, such as typing 'A' for Armies or 'T' for cities; you may have to install the Insecticide patch to use them, though.

Also, right-clicking on a city should open up its production screen. Of course, that means you have to have (or move) the city into view: either by scrolling, clicking on the mini-map up in the corner, or opening the main map with the F2 key.

If you don't want to issue orders to a unit yet, you can give it the "Patrol" command. This can be canceled later in the turn by selecting the unit so that you can give it a different order.

While this is true enough, it's also more than a little inconvenient during the busy mid- and late game, when you're likely to have a metric ton of units floating about on both planes all over the map, and can easily lose track of that one group you were planning to send into battle, just as soon as you get those cities' build queues sorted out.

As an alternative, I'd suggest cycling through and hitting 'Done' for those units you're not planning to move that turn (but don't want to inactivate with 'Patrol'), and then take it from there.
